Notes:
Comparing times at different courses, on different days:

  • The course at Founders was set up by East on September 16 and 23. It was set up by Dunckel on October 7, and the course was shorter that day. To compare times, figure October 7 was about 1 minute or 1:10 faster.
  • Unofficially, we are suspecting that the Catalpa course might be a hair longer than Founders. If Founders is 2.0 miles, then Catalpa might be 2.1 miles. Certainly, October 14 was the wettest race in the last ten years of East Cross Country, so times would be slower, but we have had this suspicion about the course distance for a few years.
  • Officially, DCD has a shorter course. Their official announced distance is 1.89 miles. Times should be faster there on a good day. October 16 was a terribly muddy day, and this did slow everything down.

New Notes
We are coming into our busy time of the season, with four races in the next two weeks, so we are changing our schedule somewhat.

  • Practice, starting Friday (tomorrow), will end at 3:45.

  • The meets next week are at Catalpa Park (Tuesday) and Country Day Upper School (Thursday).

  • There is no practice next Friday (October 17).

  • The meets the following week are at Catalpa Park (Monday, October 20) and Cranbrook (Thursday, October 23).

  • All athletes run in the South Meet (October 20) but there will be three races: Top7 girls, Top 7 boys, and an Open race.

  • ONLY the Top 7 girls and boys run at the League Meet (October 23). Other team members may come to watch. This meet starts at 4:00, and the organizers say that boys will be running first.

  • ALL team members should be dressed in their uniform on Tuesday, October 21, for the official team photo that will go in the yearbook. Non-Top 7 runners can be picked up by 3:15.

  • There is no practice on October 22 due to a school dance.

  • CLEAN uniforms can be turned in ASAP after the team photo, or after the League Meet.

  • There will be a pizza party (tentatively scheduled for Friday, October 24) after the season. This will cost $3.00. Students may be picked up at 3:30 on this day.

Old Notes
  • Girls will run first in every race except at the Oakland County Meet on Sept. 26; boys will run first in that meet. It's a long story.

  • All runners will get a chance to participate at the South Meet, the division meet to be held Monday, October 20. There will be three races, a Girls’ Varsity race beginning at 4:30, which includes the top seven girls from each team, a Boys’ Varsity race following, and then an Open race for all other runners. This is the same format as the County Meet. (Exact order of races will be announced.)

  • The South Meet (Oct. 20) will be the last meet of the season for runners in the Open category.

  • At the League Meet, to be held October 23, only the top seven boys and girls from each school will run. We would prefer something different, but the North Division schools will also be present, and the Cranbrook course is too tight for so many runners. Everyone is welcome to come and watch.

  • There will be no practice on Friday, October 17.

  • We will have a pizza party to end the season. Date to be announced.
